We've all been taught to write with a pen or pencil, but is there a better way?
Alphabet Soup
Picture yourself in a classroom. You're in the third grade. You're learning to write in those big letters the teacher is writing on the blackboard. There are lines you have to write between, you have a special book, and it's hard, really hard. Are you right-handed or left-handed? or both? Ambidextrous? Did you know that there are 10% of left-handers in the world, 89% of right handers, and 1% of those who write with both hands (ambidextrous)? Neither did I.
I am left-handed, and it has never been a problem, except that scissors are made for right-handed people (are there left handed scissors for hairdressers?). When you're at school you're taught to hold the pen with your thumb and first two fingers, your thumb and forefinger guide your writing instrument. We all remember those days. But is there a better way?
Geniuses use pencils
Computers may provide the answer. And that answer comes in typing as opposed to writing with a writing instrument. Though some people argue that writing - actual writing, with pen or pencil in hand, is more creative, gives you more ideas, and the actual process of writing imprints information in your memory.
Winner takes all
It seems logical. On the other side, typing into a computer is efficient and easy to read, though it really doesn't feel the same. I think the jury is out on this one, but I believe there will always be a place for the written word and writing instruments in general. Call me old-fashioned!
